The Bachelor of Education (Teaching of English as Second Language -TESL) programme is designed to give students, the academic and technical skills in broad areas. The programme combines the precise training in methods of teaching English and practice with the analytical tools of education. It teaches students a wide range of skills that are valuable for careers in government schools, private schools, and international educational organizations. The programme is designed as a transformative program, which offers students, the education, training, and first-hand experience which are essential for successful international careers. The programme trains the students for current and future leadership responsibilities with the development of systematic understanding, decision making and communication skills.

The primary aims of the programme are:

  • Introduce students to the fundamentals of English language learning.

  • Nurture future teachers who are responsive to the needs of teaching and learning English as a Second Language environment.

  • Develop students to be competent individuals, equipped with language proficiency and other necessary skills to teach effectively.

  • Expose students to the issues in contemporary English education.

  • Cultivate students to become responsible individuals with integrated personality who can act as role models to the future generation.

  • Pass in Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) with at least Grade C (NGMP 2.0) in 2 subjects; or
  • Pass in Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) (Jayyid rank).
    STAM students who do not take or pass the Arabic in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or equivalent may be considered for a Bachelor of Arabic degree; or
  • Pass in the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with at least Grade B in 5 subjects; or
  • Pass in Matriculation/ Foundation/ Foundation from any IPTA/ IPTS/ Institutions allowing foundation programs with a CGPA of 2.00; or
  • Diploma with at least CGPA 2.00; or
  • Other qualifications recognized as equivalent by the Government of Malaysia.

 

English Requirements :
International students must have proof of good proficiency in verbal and written English. For example, International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or its equivalent. If a student does not meet this requirement, HEPs must offer English proficiency courses to ensure that the student’s proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of the programme.
